There are really itty bitty flecks in the metal. It does match all the black wrought iron I have around my house. People who visit say what a nice black candle holder it is. I have it on my farmhouse kitchen table. I have black windsor chairs and it looks really nice on my table. Unless you examine it up CLOSE in the sun, it looks black.
